About the Fellowship

The Colorado Science & Technology Policy Program (STPP) Fellowship is a nonpartisan program that places scientists, social scientists, engineers, and technical experts in support of the Colorado State Legislature for one- to two-year appointments to ensure the state’s competitiveness in science and technology.

Colorado STPP Fellows work within the nonpartisan research division of the Colorado State Legislature, directly serving decision-makers and gaining first-hand experience in state policymaking processes. STPP Fellows support the legislative branch by evaluating complex scientific issues facing Colorado while tackling the responsibilities of full-time staffers. The Fellows provide direct and continued access to nonpartisan, independent, and objective research and analysis to support evidence-based policy development.

Fellowship Highlights

The Colorado STPP Fellowship is a one- to two-year immersive experience in state policymaking.

The program begins with an in-depth policy orientation focused on Colorado state government and policy, covering topics such as the legislative process, history of science and technology policy, the Colorado political landscape, nonpartisanship, and the role of evidence in policymaking.

Throughout the year, Fellows participate in additional professional development, networking sessions, and field trips organized by the Institute for Science & Policy.

The Fellowship offers a competitive salary and benefits package, and relocation assistance.

Read our FAQ for more information on eligibility requirements, application questions, and more. Meet the 2025-2026 Fellows and sign up for our mailing list to be notified when the next application period opens.
